AI photo selection on your computer

Select photos from your shoot
with AI on your computer.

Free for 30 days with the 3.1 Beta. $199 one-off licence, all future major versions included.

Sollestro is an AI photo selector for photographers that runs on Local AI: a local LLM on your own computer, not in the cloud. Choose a folder of photos, or photos in a DaVinci Resolve Studio project, and describe the people, moments and kinds of images your client needs. Sollestro marks which photos to keep, reconsider or set aside, and you review and change the choices.

Because the AI is local, there is no per-photo fee and no credits to buy, and your photographs and brief stay on your computer. You can work from a folder without Resolve or another photo catalogue. You only need the internet to download the AI model and to check your licence.

Windows x64 or Apple Silicon Mac (macOS 13 or newer). Folder selection does not require Resolve. Resolve photo selection requires DaVinci Resolve Studio 21 or newer.

Why Sollestro

Why choose Sollestro for photo selection

01

One payment, no Local AI usage fees.

The one-off licence includes all future major versions. You can select another shoot or revise a selection without buying AI credits for each photo.

02

Your photographs stay on your computer.

The Local AI model examines photo previews and your brief on your machine. Model downloads and licence checks still need an internet connection.

03

It considers the whole selected shoot.

Sollestro works through every readable photo you include, rather than making a judgement from a small selection of the job. Check the Log for any photo it could not read.

04

Your brief directs the selection.

Tell Sollestro who and what must appear, how many photos you are aiming for, where you need variety and what to set aside. It makes a project-specific selection.

05

No photo catalogue is required to start.

Sollestro can select directly from an ordinary folder. You can then review ratings and colour labels in compatible photo software.

06

It is not tied to one kind of shoot.

Write a different brief for a wedding, portrait session, event, product, property or sports job, and load the matching Photography Knowledge file, one of 51 genres included. The selection follows the work you are delivering.

07

It takes on repetitive first-pass work.

Sollestro assesses the selected photos and produces marks you can review. You spend your time checking coverage and making the final gallery stronger.

08

It was built by a working photographer.

Lucian Paraian designed Sollestro from experience photographing and delivering client work, including the need to review large shoots without losing important moments.

09

You keep the final say.

The output is a set of marks you can change. Sollestro does not delete rejected photos. It learns from your changed marks only when you click Learn, and any standing preference it picks up from your briefs is announced in the Log and can be undone.

Features

Photo selection features

Select from a folder or from photos already in Resolve. Both routes use the same project-specific brief and Local AI model.

Set up and analyse

  • Work from a folder: Choose photographs on your drive without opening Resolve.
  • Work in Resolve: Choose photos imported into a DaVinci Resolve Studio 21 project.
  • Pick the genre: Load the Photography Knowledge file closest to the shoot. 51 genres are included, and Sollestro uses that genre's standards wherever your brief says nothing.
  • Describe this shoot: State key people, moments, target gallery size, variety and exclusions.
  • Get help writing the brief: Start from the AI Selection Template, or let Prompt Builder turn your notes into a full selection prompt you can read and change.
  • Analyse every readable photo selected: Sollestro examines previews with the model running on your computer. Preview Detail goes up to 2,576 pixels, so fine detail such as closed eyes can be seen.
  • Run it in one click: The gold AI Selection button analyses new photos, builds the prompt from what you wrote and selects. Stopping loses nothing: analysis carries on where it left off, and a selection re-run with the same prompt and model picks up from the batches already judged.
  • Review three levels of choice: Keep, maybe and reject marks help you decide what reaches the client.
  • Ask for highlights: Highlights picks a small hero set across the whole shoot and marks it blue with five stars. Give a count, or let Sollestro choose.
  • Use Resolve flags and bins: In Resolve, review flags and keeper items gathered in a Keepers Media Pool folder.

Review and finish

  • Use ratings and colour labels from a folder: Review them in Lightroom, Capture One, Bridge or compatible photo software.
  • Keep RAW originals unchanged: Sollestro saves RAW ratings and labels in separate XMP sidecar files.
  • Write supported image metadata: JPEG, TIFF and PNG marks can be embedded in those image files.
  • Find specific photos: Ask for "all the photos with the cake" or "the 20 best dance shots" and Sollestro marks only those, purple unless you name another colour, without touching the rest.
  • Change any decision: Set or remove marks during your own review. Undo Marks puts back the marks from before the last AI run and leaves photos you changed by hand alone. Sollestro does not delete the photographs.
  • Save the corrections you choose: Run Learn from my corrections when you want the app to use your edits for later jobs. Learn My Selection Style studies keepers from your past shoots.
  • Straighten photos in Resolve: Straighten Photos levels the photos of a Photo page album, or of a bin it turns into an album, right on the Photo page (DaVinci Resolve 21.1.2 or later). Undo puts them back, and your photo files are not changed.
  • Make resized copies: Resize Photos writes smaller copies of a folder into a Resized subfolder, keeping the capture details and colour profile.
  • Get a second opinion: Judge Me reviews the analysed shoot: what is working first, then what to improve.
  • Try another brief: Change the instructions and make another selection from suitable saved analysis.
  • Re-analyse when needed: Refresh photo descriptions when the saved analysis no longer suits the job.
  • Finish the gallery yourself: Check quantity, technical quality, variety and key moments before delivery.

No video tutorials yet, so the Sollestro assistant walks you through any of these step by step. Pick one: analyse your photos · write a brief from a template · make your first selection in Resolve · select from a folder with XMP · find specific photos · pick highlights · undo the marks · teach it from your corrections · straighten photos · resize photos · get a review of the shoot.

How it works

How photo selection works

1

Install and activate Sollestro.

Install the 3.1 Beta, enter your free beta key or licence key, then download a compatible AI model from Model Packages. Check the app's advice for your computer.

2

Choose the photographs.

Select a folder on your computer, or open a Resolve Studio 21 project containing the photos and choose the relevant Media Pool folders. Load the Photography Knowledge file closest to the shoot: Sollestro needs one before it analyses or selects.

3

Describe the gallery.

State its purpose, target size, important people or moments, variety and what should be set aside. Read and change the instructions before selecting.

4

Run AI Selection.

Sollestro analyses selected photos it has not already saved and marks each readable item as keep, maybe or reject. Check the Log for files it could not read.

5

Review and change the marks.

In the folder route, open the ratings and labels in compatible photo software. In Resolve, inspect flags and the Keepers bin. Change choices before delivery.

RAW ratings and labels are saved beside the original files as XMP sidecars. For supported JPEG, TIFF and PNG files, Sollestro can write the metadata into the image file. Example instructions

Select a varied gallery from this event. Include the speakers, audience, venue and key interactions. Aim for about 100 photos. Avoid near-identical frames and test shots. Keep a smaller highlights set for a quick preview.

What Sollestro produces

Sollestro marks the selected photographs for review. The target count guides the selection; check the final number and coverage yourself. No photos are deleted.

05
Who it is for

For photographers with more to deliver than a quick shortlist.

Each shoot needs its own brief. State what your client needs, and review the marks against that job rather than relying on a generic idea of the best photo.

About

Built by Lucian Paraian, a working photographer.

Lucian Paraian, founder of Sollestro, with a Blackmagic cinema camera

I built Sollestro to take on the first pass through a large photo shoot while leaving the final selection with the photographer. You can see and change its marks, then finish the gallery in your usual software. If you contact support, you reach the person who builds the software.

FAQ

Photographer questions

01Do I need Resolve or Lightroom?+

No. You can select directly from a folder. To inspect ratings and labels after a folder run, open them in compatible photo software. Resolve is needed only for the Resolve route.

02Will Sollestro change or delete my RAW files?+

It does not delete rejected photos. RAW marks are written to separate XMP sidecar files. Supported JPEG, TIFF and PNG marks can be written into those files.

03Does it upload my photos or brief?+

The Local AI workflow processes them on your computer. Model downloads and licence checks use the internet.

04Will it give me exactly the number of photos I ask for?+

State a target in your brief. Then check the count, coverage and choices before delivery.

05What are highlights?+

You can ask Sollestro for a smaller selection alongside the main gallery, for example for a client preview. Review those choices too.

06Does it learn from every change I make?+

No. Change the marks first, then click Learn (Learn from my corrections) if you want those choices saved for later work. Separately, Active Learning picks up standing "always" and "never" preferences from the briefs you type, announces each one in the Log and lets you undo it, or switch it off.

07Which computers are targeted?+

Windows x64, with engines for NVIDIA, AMD and Intel graphics, and Apple Silicon Macs with macOS 13 or newer. Intel Macs are not supported. Choose a model that fits the computer using Sollestro's Model Packages advice.

08Which AI model should I download?+

Model Packages offers one combined vision-and-text model in three sizes: 35B A3B (highest quality), 9B (balanced) and 4B (lighter). Sollestro marks the size it recommends for your computer. One download can be chosen for both Analysis and Selection.

09Are there video tutorials?+

Not yet. The Sollestro assistant, the gold chat button at the bottom right of any page, gives a step-by-step guide for every feature instead: ask it how to do something and it lists each click in order, with what you should see at the end. The user guides for Windows and Mac cover the main workflows too.
